Så är den till ända, den största skithelgen på hela året. Helgen då vi fyller våra hem med godis och lär våra barn att det är okej att knacka dörr och hota. Helgen då vi plötsligt uppmuntrar tiggeri, så länge det sker inom våra trygga zoner.
Helgen då vi som vanligt går förbi tiggaren utanför ICA. Kanske låtsas som vi inte ser när vi går in i affären för att säkra hemmen med godis inför påringningar från utklädda barn. Helgen då vi tittar bort när vi går förbi, eftersom det inte går att ge alla. För att vi inte har råd. Även om det är synd om dem där de sitter utanför mataffären. De som aldrig skulle komma på tanken att hota för att få pengar, eller för den delen knacka dörr. Som sitter där för att de inte har något val.
Årets största skithelg är över och jag har ett förslag inför nästa gång. Köp inte godis för pengarna, ge dem till någon som behöver i stället.

Dressing up in scary costumes and face paints is more fun if you get to show it off. No fun being a vampire sitting home alone with no candy. Also I am pretty sure the professional beggars outside the supermarkets made about the same amount of cash as they would any other day.
I don’t mind the dressing up or the showing off – what I don’t like is the ”trick or treat”-part.
The game of ”trick or treat” I am fine with – what I don’t like is professional begging.

Jan – I don’t like ”professional” (as you call it) begging either. I don’t like the fact that so many people in this world have so little that they have to live in the streets, or in smelly camps without water or heating. I don’t like the fact that, at the same time in this county we complain about high taxes and decreased wellfare and that the refugees cost too much. While this country is allowing schools and elderly care companies to profit and to not pay taxes by registering their companies in other countries. I think it sucks, so – I sincerely don’t like begging, and I wish it didn’t need to exist.
And let’s face it – both you and I come from places where many people don’t have a lot.

There are many countries in this world where poor people are forced to live in the streets begging for money or food because no social services are available to them. Neither Sweden nor Romania is one of those countries. As any other EU country, social services are available to the citizens of the member states.
Also refugees does not cost a lot. In fact according to UNHCR a refugee costs about 25 SEK per day (Asylum seekers in Sweden costs about 500 SEK per day). So perhaps consider donating ”lite slanter” to UNHCR for those in need before putting money in a paper cup outside ICA for some EU citizen (aka EU migrant) just to boost their social benefits that they are paid their home country.
Point is I will keep buying the godis to give away for halloween and I will still not put money in the EU migrant’s paper cup outside ICA (or Lidl as the case may be 🙂 and I will do so without feeling the least bit guilty.
